Sam’s Club, Sprouts start the holiday season

Sam’s Club has been gearing up for holiday decorating.

The retailer cleverly launched a digital promotion, giving consumers a virtual tour of the Griswold house from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” fame, where they can navigate through rooms and find a large assortment of its store brand decorations and more to purchase right there online.

In stores, those same decorations are on display, found by Path to Purchase Institute editors around the end of September, getting a solid jump on the holiday season.

Merchandise such as a large nutcracker, a brightly lit “JOY” sign for the front lawn and elegant white reindeers (all as seen in the Griswold tour) were spotted unboxed and on display in a Sam’s Club in Naples, Fla. The displays were on pallets.

Perhaps to come inside stores will be signage near these items that also drives shoppers to see the Griswold house from the popular film, being such a fun digital program. Possibilities could be scanning QR codes in stores to send shoppers directly to the site to enjoy in the aisle or delivering mobile ads when in stores.

In addition offering Member's Mark decorative displays, the virtual tour highlights Member's Mark foods, national brand gift ideas, and includes trivia and visuals that tap into some of the memorable scenes in the movie.

Sprouts Highlights Holiday Baking Essentials
With Halloween over, retailers are moving full-steam into their holiday merchandising efforts, and Sprouts Farmers Market is no exception. On a recent trip to a Sprouts location in Santa Fe, N.M., Store Brands spotted a holiday baking display that emphasized dairy and wheat alternatives.

The display featured various coconut milks from Sprouts' store brand offerings, as well as its owned brand almond meal, coconut flour, shredded coconut and coconut chips. It was surrounded by branded sweets and confections.

The baking supplies offer a complement to the retailer's holiday meal solutions
