For the third time this year, Lidl US is celebrating its award-winning exclusive beer and wine selection, the latest awards haul being from the 2021 USA Wine Ratings and USA Beer Ratings competitions.

The company submitted 80 beer and wine products from its own brands portfolio to compete for gold, silver or bronze medals in the program, winning 60 total, 10 of which were gold medals in the wine category.

Lidl’s store brand wines that earned the Gold medal in the USA Wine Ratings contest included the Dundalgan Wine-Based Irish Country Cream, Rosecreek Saint Emilion Grand Cru AOP, Rosecreek Shiraz Australia, Conde Noble Sangria, Rosecreek Cabernet Sauvignon Chile, Vega del Cega Blanco Valdepenas DO, Hachon Verdejo Rueda DO, Gold & Grape White Zinfadel of California, Caladeverde Nero d’Avola DOP BIO, and the Allini Asti Spumante DOCG.

In the spring, Lidl earned 47 gold, silver and bronze medals from the The Beverage Trade Network’s Sommeliers Choice Awards. Two gold winners in that competition struck gold again in the USA Wine Ratings program, including the Dundalgan Wine-Based Irish Country Cream and the Allini Asti Spumante DOCG. The grocer’s Rosecreek Riesling Washington varietal won a gold from The Beverage Trade Network and a silver medal in the USA Wine Ratings competition.

In total, 50 of Lidl’s latest medals came in its wine category, private brand wines have been increasing steadily, according to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis data, up over 6% in 2019, and Kate Helms, senior manager of private brands, E & J Gallo said in a recent Store Brands wine report that the supplier has seen double-digit volume growth the last two years.

The retailer’s private brand beer won 11 medals in the spring, too, at the 2021 New York International Beer Competition, including a special recognition for its Perlenbacher brand being named German Pilsner Brewery of the Year.

That brand won a silver medal in the USA Beer Ratings competition along with other significant double winners like the Trailgazer Session Ale and Atomic Tart Raspberry Ale, winning a silver in both competitions.

“With so many options out there for customers to purchase beer and wine, we’re proud to be a destination for a high quality, unique and highly awarded wine and beer assortment,” said Stefan Schwarz, chief product officer, Lidl. “These additional 60 medals help to set ours apart and show exceptional wines and beers can be attainable and enjoyed during everyday occasions.”
