Kroger strategy plays up private brands
Some grocery retailers have cited a lack of capital as their biggest challenge for investing in private brands. But not The Kroger Co. Kroger recently announced a plan to “redefine the food and grocery customer experience in America,” called Restock Kroger, during its annual investor conference. As part of the plan, Kroger said it will continue to invest in its private brands, called Our Brands, which have grown 37 percent in sales from 2011 to 2017, from $15 billion to $20.5 billion.
PLMA expects Amazon, Lidl to increase trade show participation
Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods Markets and the rollout of stores by German discounter Lidl (38 and counting by the end of September) are expected to set off far-reaching changes that will boost store brands growth in the United States and lead to increased participation in the Private Label Manufacturers Association’s (PLMA) Private Label Trade Show, according to the PLMA. Austin favored for Amazon's headquarters
Austin, Texas — the home of Whole Foods Markets — is a frontrunner to be picked as the site of Amazon’s second headquarters, according to reports. According to research by Moody’s Analytics, Austin is favored for several reasons to land Amazon’s HQ2. “Austin has the highest score on business environment in the top 10, thanks to fast job growth, a dynamic tech economy and the high incentives Texas offers businesses,” Moody Analytics said. Seattle-based Amazon acquired Whole Foods in the summer and quickly became a player in the grocery industry and private brands.
