Salazar

Amneal and store-brand OTC product company PL Developments are bringing a private label Voltaren Arthritis Pain equivalent to market. The companies are introducing their diclofenac sodium topical gel 1% in 50-, 100- and 150-g laminate tubes after receiving Food and Drug Administration approval and are partnering to bring the product to U.S. retailers.

“We, along with our partners at PLD, are excited to announce the launch of the first brand matching portfolio of store brand Voltaren OTC,” Amneal co-COOs Chirag and Chintu Patel said in a statement. “We were the first to market generic Voltaren Gel in 2016 and are pleased to launch an OTC version. This represents another example of Amneal’s commitment to bringing affordable generic medicines to U.S. consumers.”

Voltaren made the switch from Rx to OTC earlier this year. As of February, the prescription product had annual sales of roughly $250 million. Both Dr. Reddy’s and Perrigo also have launched store brand equivalents to the treatment of arthritis pain. Walgreens was the first retailer to introduce a stor brand version of the product and we documented it in-store

“We are thrilled to expand our product partnership with Amneal,” said PL Developments CEO Mitch Singer. “By working together, we are able to bring the first truly brand matching portfolio of store brand Voltaren OTC to U.S. retailers. This successful launch continues our commitment to bringing valuable and affordable products to our retail partners and to U.S. consumers.”
