Trader Joe’s will begin building a new food assembly and distribution center in Palmdale, Calif. later this year that will have more than 1 million square feet and employ upwards of 1,000 workers, the Whittier Daily News reported.
Construction of the new facility is expected to begin in December and targeted completion is slated for the fourth quarter of 2024. The facility, which will supply stores across Southern California, will include three buildings, a 827,000-square-foot “hub” building, a 211,000-square-foot freezer facility and a 6,000-square-foot accessory building.
The report noted that the new distribution center will be the retailer’s first in Los Angeles County and its largest in the Golden State. Trader Joe’s also has distribution facilities in Fontana and Stockton.
Additionally, the forthcoming project will include a Joshua tree preservation area of more than 12 acres. Signage will be placed at various spots around the distribution center’s campus that will highlight the importance of preserving the trees.
