Trader Joe’s is expanding its New York City footprint with the opening of its first store in Harlem. As of July 25, shoppers were able to walk the store’s aisles and shop its broad assortment of private label products.

The 17,800-square-foot store is located at 123 West 125th Street and is part of a mixed-use development that includes retail, office space, affordable housing, the National Urban League headquarters, and a museum dedicated to the civil rights movement.

The website 6sqft reported the store pays homage to local landmarks including the Apollo Theater, Adam Clayton State Park, and other iconic locations in the region.

The Harlem location is Trader Joe’s 10th Manhattan store and 17th across New York City. The store is expected to have 100 employees.

In addition to the specialty grocery, other retailers including TargetSephora, and Pandora will call the new building home.
