Rite Aid has added new technology to its Des Moines, Wash., distribution center.

Rite Aid has unveiled the expansion of its 266,000-square-foot distribution center in Des Moines, Wash. Offering a modern design and current-day technology, the facility will serve 250 additional Rite Aid stores across Washington, Oregon and Idaho, beginning January 2024.

The newly renovated distribution center features floor-to-ceiling, state-of-the-art OPEX Infinity technology, an automated goods-to-person solution that delivers items right to associate workstations for greater productivity and faster output. Rite Aid’s facility features the largest OPEX Infinity system created to date, measuring 45,000 square feet.

Renovations also include fully upgraded office spaces, breakrooms, conference areas and locker rooms that showcase a clean, modern design.

“The Des Moines facility is an integral part of our distribution network, and we’re now better equipped to execute with greater speed, agility and effectiveness that will position us for long-term success,” said Ron Gilbert, senior vice president, Supply Chain at Rite Aid. “The investment in the facility is ultimately an investment in our partners, our people, our customers and our community.”

The expansion also brings approximately 50 new warehouse production positions to the local community, including pickers, receivers, sorters and maintenance engineers. More than 100 full-time employees currently operate the facility.

“We have had a presence in the Des Moines community for the last seven years, and we’re excited for the opportunity to help generate more local jobs that offer a comprehensive benefits package and collaborative work environment,” said Jason Hudgins, manager, Human Resources at Rite Aid. “It’s an exciting time to join our team as we work to meet the growing demands of the communities we proudly serve.”
