A Filipino grocery chain with 16 locations in California and Nevada has launched a store brand line, starting with a line of premium banana chips made in the Philippines and imported to California.

Island Pacific Supermarket, based in Walnut, Calif., launched its first private label program called Island Pacific Select. The grocer known for its seafood and Filipino foods said it will have a team of professional buyers and a research department dedicated to “meticulously grade and analyze each product before making it a part of the Island Pacific Select line.”

The retailer wants the private brand items to maintain a premium quality and still deliver on price, it said. The first items launched are four types of flavored banana chips.

The products are Island Pacific Select Glazed Banana Thins in original, chocolate, cinnamon and salted. The chips are cooked in small batches and sliced for a thin, crispy crunch; they are sourced from local Philppine banana farms.

"The manufacturer of this product is a family owned business in the Philippines who are passionate in creating the best banana chips on the planet,” said Island Pacific Founder and CEO Nino Jefferson Lim. “What makes this product amazing is it perfectly embodies the goals and objectives of our private label program which is to provide premium product at affordable prices.”

A jar of the Island Pacific Select Glazed Banana Thins retail for $4.99.
