When it comes to competing with Amazon, Walmart is winning in sustainability, according to a contributor to Forbes magazine. The article says where Amazon doesn’t go far enough, Walmart is plowing forward, and the retailer’s private label packaging and products are central to its strategic advantage.

Contributor Greg Petro outlined several sustainable partnerships and moves by Walmart that are standing out including a pledge to produce more sustainably sourced private coffee brands and its push for more sustainable private label packaging.

The retailer has announced a plan to have 100% of its food and consumable private brand product to be recyclable and carry a How2Recycle logo on their label. The organization operates a standardized labeling system that includes instructions on how to properly recycle the product’s packaging.

The article also mentions that Walmart expects to have 100% recyclable, reusable or industry compostable packaging for its private brand packaging by 2025.
