Sam’s Club is turning five locations into “Merry-ville,” a parking lot holiday celebration that includes its Member’s Mark food truck with samples of own brand fare, and a version of the celebration will also travel to 60 other locations.
The retailer already promoted enhanced services around the holidays this year, including a partnership to deliver Member’s Mark wines and more ways to experience its breadth of Member’s Mark decorations and foods for entertaining. Last year, the club store executed a clever digital tie-in with the holiday cinema staple, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”
As part of its “Merry-ville” celebration, the retailer is looking to go digital again, too, with an augmented realty experience inside Sam’s Club locations. Shoppers can spot signage inside stores with a QR code to scan with their mobile phones and be taken into a virtual world with Santa Claus and more.
Activities at the “Merry-ville” events include an ice skating rink, a virtual Santa Meet & Greet, highly decorated stations for families to use and take photos, and holiday pop-up chalets with Sam’s Club merchandise. The five locations getting the large parking lot parties are in Santa Clarita, Calif., Denver, Plano, Texas, Pooler, Ga., and in Oklahoma.
