Lidl U.S. will soon have a new chief executive officer as Joel Rampoldt will take over in September as the new CEO. He replaces current CEO Michal Lagunionek who is stepping down.

News of the change in leadership, which was confirmed to Store Brands by a Lidl U.S. spokesperson, was first reported by German trade publication Lebensmittel Zeitung. Additionally, the company also said it was opening new stores in Virginia and Brooklyn, N.Y.

According to his LinkedIn profile, since 2018 Rampoldt has served as partner and managing director at the management consulting firm AlixPartners. Prior, he was a principal at KPMG, a partner at Oliver Wyman, and a manager at Digitas.

Lagunionek has served as president/CEO of Lidl U.S. since June of 2021. He has worked with Lidl since January of 2001 and held several positions including executive board member, sales; managing director; and executive board member, countries. It was not immediately clear what his next position in the company would be.
