With Thanksgiving around the corner, retailers are looking to attract customers with low rates as inflation and supply chain challenges make grocery shopping more expensive.
Lidl, an East Coast grocery chain with a primarily private label inventory, is joining other stores by locking in a holiday meal deal for less than $30. The chain is active in 32 countries, with 11,550 stores in operation.
Like Lidl, discounter Aldi and Meijer have locked in low prices for own brand holiday items. Trader Joe’s is also touting savings, as they recently curated a list of affordable private label Thanksgiving items.
The Lidl Thanksgiving dinner meal consists of a 13 lb. frozen turkey, pumpkin pie mix, 1 gallon of whole milk, carrots, celery, Hawaiian sweet rolls, green beans, pie shells, fresh cranberries, whipping cream, bagged stuffing and sweet potatoes. The meal can feed up to 10 people for less than $3 a person.
“As the prices for food rise across the country, Lidl is continuing to give shoppers the ability to put more on the table this holiday season,” said Stefan Schwarz, Lidl US chief product officer. “For less than $30, shoppers at Lidl can provide family and friends a delicious Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings. We are proud to be part of this holiday tradition.”
Lidl is promoting its other own brand products as part of the holiday meal pitch as well. The chain’s wine took home several honors at the 2021 USA Win Awards, with a bottle costing as low as less than $10. Lidl is also touting its collection of exotic cheeses from around the world, and low cost baked goods that are ideal for Thanksgiving appetizers.
