Lidl food truck delivers groceries to retirement homes

Lidl US, based in Arlington, Va., has offered up its food truck to deliver groceries to several retirement homes in the Virginia area where the food truck was originally licensed to offer food samples.

The deliveries are free and the shut-in shoppers choose items they want delivered from a printed menu, as reported by The Virginian-Pilot. The items are food and home essentials to get the community through the tough coronavirus pandemic.

The retailer recently announced it would hire 1,000 workers and worked with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield to insure those new employees that don’t have health insurance for medical benefits covering testing and treatment related to COVID-19 at no cost.

Lidl also opened a state-of-the-art new distribution center. The DC will act as he hub of the deep discounter’s regional store network, quickly supplying products to stores across five states: Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. Lidl invested more than $100 million in the project, which will create more than 200 full-time jobs.
