Meal kit producer Home Chef, a subsidiary of Kroger, rolled out a hunger relief program to aid communities in need during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Home Chef Helps” is an extension of what the Chicago-based company already does to fight hunger in local communities and this new round of assistance includes a $100,000 donation to Feeding America that will go into that leading organization’s COVID-19 Response Fund. Many retailers and organizations have been donating to the organization these past few weeks, including Amazon’s recent $100 million donation.
In addition to its donation, Home Chef has also enabled a way for customers who receive the meal kits at home to give back by skipping their order for a week and donate to Feeding America. The company runs a delivery meal service but also produces exclusive packaged prepared meal kits for Kroger stores. Home Chef is also using its social channels to urge others to donate.
Lastly, through a partnership with ID.me, Home Chef has made discounts available to teachers, doctors, nurses, military, first responders and all employees at more than 5,000 hospitals nationwide. Those eligible go to a Home Chef verify page where they’re identified and can immediately start ordering.
