Gopuff Taps Into Viral Trend with Exclusive Launch of 6 7 Water
The beverage assortment at Gopuff has been expanded with the debut of 6 7 Water, a line of canned purified water that is being carried exclusively by the online retailer.
The brainchild of Taylen Kinney, a 17-year-old best known as an Overtime Elite (OTE) basketball player, the new product is offered in 12-ounce cans and is initially available in the Philadelphia and New York City markets.
The product’s name is derived from a social media trend that became popular with Generation Z. A video posted by Kinney using the term “6 7” went viral garnering more than 15 million views. The viral nature of the term grabbed the attention of high school students and well known athletes include Paige Bueckers of the WNBA’s Dallas Wings and Cooper Flagg, the former Duke University basketball star who was recently drafted by the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks.
"At Gopuff, we’ve seen how social trends can impact what our customers are craving,” said Tyler Stewart, head of Marketing and Creative Partnerships at Gopuff. “We’ve built a reputation as the go-to destination for discovering new, buzzworthy products at your fingertips. We’re excited to bring 6 7 Water, the latest trending product, straight to our customers’ doors."
According to Parents.com, the 6 7 trend has its roots tracing back to the song Doot Doot (6 7) by the rap artist Skrilla. The phrase has also been used by the younger generation in reference to NBA player LaMelo Ball, who is 6-feet 7-inches in height. One line of thinking is that the term means “so-so” while others have said it refers to a person’s height.
Debuting on July 11, 6 7 water is priced at $3 per can, or $14.95 for a six-pack. Since teasing the product launch on social media, more than 20,000 fans have signed up on the 6 7 website to stay updated on the first product drop and the brand’s Instagram and TikTok pages have amassed millions of views.
