Financial site praises Kroger’s private brand portfolio
On Oct. 31, financial website SeekingAlpha.com posted an article titled “Kroger’s Private-Label Portfolio Is A Force To Be Reckoned With.” Besides citing data from the Private Label Manufacturers Association on the growth of store brands in general, the article describes the particular success Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. has had in the realm of private brands.
Author Jacob Larkee wrote, “Making up nearly 26 percent of its sales (excluding fuel and pharmacy), Kroger’s huge corporate brand portfolio allows the company to increase margins by placing its corporate branded products next to national brands. This benefits the consumer by saving them money and increasing loyalty and … benefits Kroger by giving it increased margins on products that don’t require much, if any, marketing.”
