ALDI gets cheesy for the holidays

ALDI is back with more themed cheese.

If there’s one retailer that has garnered a solid reputation for its private label cheese, it's ALDI. And with its creative concepts in marketing cheese, the Batavia, Ill.-based retailer knows how to drum up publicity.

ALDI recently unveiled three new cheeses for the holidays under its Emporium Selections private brand. But it’s not so much the flavors that are drawing attention, it's the shapes and the packaging: one cheese, a cheddar cheese caramelized onion, is shaped like a snowman and packaged as such; another, a cheddar cheese with port wine, is shaped like Santa Claus with packaging that looks like the jolly one; and a third, a mature cheddar, is shaped like a star in black packaging.

In addition, ALDI is also selling cheese-filled ornaments. Seriously.

The limited-time cheeses become available this week, and each costs $2.99. Thanks to the internet, word is getting out.

Delish.com has a story on the cheese line with the writer saying they are “almost too cute to eat.” Other stories tout ALDI’s cheese as being perfect for the holidays.

This isn’t the first time ALDI has geared its cheese toward a holiday, a season and even an event. Last year, ALDI released its Happy Farms Preferred ’80s Smash Hits Cheese Assortment shortly before the Grammy Awards. The six varieties in the line featured names with takes on some of the 1980’s most popular rock and pop songs.

Can’t wait to see what cheese is next.
