Albertsons teases own brands awards, launches family packs

Albertsons associates are finalizing their favorite private brand products of the year. It’s the first year the retailer is hosting an Own Brands Associate Choice Awards program, announcing winners Monday, Feb. 15.

The retailer’s Own Brands newsletter announced the awards and already gave a sneak peek at one of the program’s winners — Signature Reserve Tennessee Whiskey. The unique own brand whiskey won for “favorite adult beverage.” Store Brands will have the rest of the winners on Monday. 

Albertsons joins other retailers like Trader Joe’s that has hosted an associate’s selection awards as well as its long-running Customer Favorites awards. This year, CVS also announced a program to recognize its most beloved private brands.

Additionally, in the Own Brands newsletter, the team pointed out that it’s putting an emphasis on rolling out family-size packs, something executives also mentioned in its last quarterly report.

Part of the trend is a new Waterfront Bistro fish pack, as well as Signature Select canned chunk chicken breast, and O Organics nuts and trail mix packs. Coming soon are Signature Select frozen cauliflower florets.

The family packs aim to help shoppers cooking more at home for the family and lessening the burden on the family budget, per the newsletter. Also launching for family home cooks are Signature Select rice noodles and sweet chili and peanut sauces, joining an innovative line under the Open Nature brand including lemongrass basil cooking sauce, tikka masala, cilantro lime and Korean-style bulgogi sauce.
