Whole Foods Takes Steps To Reduce Food Waste

The grocer has launched a new initiative that allows shoppers to purchase select goods at a discount.

Whole Foods Market is teaming with Too Good To Go to help reduce food waste.

Whole Foods Market is taking new steps to reduce food waste and has teamed with Too Good To on a new initiative that allows shoppers to purchase “surprise bags” of surplus food from the grocer’s stores.

Shoppers will be able to purchase bags are more than 450 Whole Foods locations across the United States through the Too Good To Go app available on the iOS and Android platforms. Choices include prepared foods surprise bags, containing soups and ready-to-eat meals, priced at $9.99 for a $30 value, and Bakery Surprise Bags featuring breads, muffins, scones, and cookies, priced at $6.99 for a $21 value.

"As part of our purpose to nourish people and the planet, we continue to invest in new and innovative ways to keep unsold food out of our landfills and empower our customers to make environmentally conscious choices. We’re proud of the work we’ve done– just last year we donated nearly 34 million pounds of food to food programs across the country– but are so excited to expand that work with the help of Too Good To Go."

With more than 100 million registered users across the world, the Too Good To Go marketplace connects businesses with community members committed to saving food from being wasted.
