To mark the Aug. 6 opening of Whole Foods’ new Reston, Va., store, Northern Virginia Food Rescue will receive a food donation as part of the retailer’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods Program.

On Aug. 6, Whole Foods Market will open a new 46,711-square-foot store at 1861 Fountain Drive in Reston, Va., that will provide the community with some unique offerings. Adjacent to Reston Town Center, the new location is a relocation of an existing store that had served the community since 1996. The new store will almost double the square footage of the previous location.

Whole Foods’ new Reston store will carry an array of certified organic and conventional produce, as well as fruits and vegetables as part of the company’s Sourced for Good venture. Sourced for Good calls out produce that the Austin, Texas-based retailer has procured in collaboration with farms, suppliers and international third-party certifiers, including Fair Trade USA, Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade America, the Fair Food Program, the Equitable Food Initiative and Regenerative Organic Certified to support actions that can provide such social benefits as improved wages, health care, student scholarships and tree planting to prevent erosion and other social causes.

Other store features include a full-service coffee bar brewing various roasts and serving made-to-order seasonal and everyday tea and coffee beverages, as well as a bakery department serving up bread baked in-house and such everyday favorites as Whole Foods Market’s Berry Chantilly Cake and brown butter cookies.

On opening morning, customers can enjoy complimentary coffee and bites, and the first 300 shoppers in line will receive a custom tote bag and a Secret Saver coupon featuring offers up to $100 off.

That same morning, Northern Virginia Food Rescue will receive a food donation as part of Whole Foods’ Nourishing Our Neighborhoods Program. The nonprofit previously received a van through the initiative, developed to enhance the operational capabilities of local food rescue organizations and enabling the efficient transport of food from locations with surpluses to places that need it. Whole Foods will also donate to area organizations Cornerstones and Anna Sudha Community Kitchens.
