Walmart+ sets sights on Amazon
Walmart is full speed ahead on its subscription platform Walmart+, reportedly launching this month for $99 annually. The service, like Amazon, will offer same-day delivery on groceries and other merchandise, special discounts on fuel at Walmart gas stations and early access to product deals.
The news of the platform’s release came from a report in Recode. By comparison, Amazon’s Prime service costs around $119 a year, including the delivery and streaming services, and more.
Walmart has been hush on the new platform so far, but it, too, could eventually offer a digital streaming service to further compete with Amazon.
Sister publication Progressive Grocer goes deeper into this article on whether Walmart can really take on Amazon with the platform.
