Following in the steps of other grocery retailers, Walmart has introduced a line of private brand wines. Winemaker’s Selection, featuring 10 wines from California, France and Italy, is now being sold in about 1,100 stores. Styles range from chianti to grenache to rose to red blends.
“Picking out a bottle of wine seems like it should be a simple process, but it often isn’t,” Walmart states on its website. “Our Winemakers Selection of wines feature highly drinkable wine for any occasion. Each wine in the Winemakers Selection has been carefully curated from the best wine regions of the world to bring you exceptional taste at an affordable price. Also, the labels are pretty cool too.”
What Walmart has done with food is "what we're planning on doing with wine," Jack Pestello, senior vice president of private brands, said recently at Walmart's Culinary and Innovation Center in Bentonville, Ark., according to a report on ArkansasOnline.
"Most retail for $11 and drink like a $30" bottle, Al Dominguez, senior vice president of snack and beverages at Walmart, told ArkansasOnline.
