Walgreens launches curbside pickup for all of its stores
Shifting to meet consumer needs during the coronavirus pandemic, Walgreens has announced that it is now offering contactless, same-day curbside pickup at its more than 8,600 stores across the United States.
The orders can be processed in as little as an hour and includes Walgreens household essential items and health and wellness products. Consumers buy online and pick up curbside at the selected store; the service is available from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. local times. To guarantee an order can be received same day, the order needs to be placed by 5 p.m.
Walgreens has curated around 1,000 household essential items and health and wellness products to be available, and it includes some grocery items, cleaning supplies, select over the counter products such as cough/cold, pain/fever and immunity support, infant formula/adult nutrition, medical supplies, first aid and paper goods. They’re items that have been key purchases during the pandemic.
Earlier in the year, Walgreens extended its drive-thru from pharmacy-only products to include these essential goods and has also upped its delivery services to include DoorDash and Postmates to bolster options for shoppers.
“We are always looking to provide our customers with safe, easy and convenient contactless shopping options to get the retail items they need, whether that’s via same-day delivery through our collaborations with DoorDash and Postmates, same-day pickup with our order online pickup at drive-thru, or now via our newest digital enhancement, order online pickup at curbside,” said Stefanie Kruse, vice president, digital commerce and omni-channel at Walgreens.
To buy items online and pick up at curbside, shoppers visit orderpickup.walgreens.com and enter their ZIP code to find the nearest Walgreens. When an order is ready for curbside, the consumer gets a confirmation e-mail. When they arrive at their selected Walgreens location, they simply tap the “I’m here” link in the e-mail and a Walgreens store team member will bring out the products and place them in a trunk or how the shopper wants them.
