Walgreens is cutting prices on more than 1,300 store brand and national brand products across the store, the latest move by a major U.S. retailer looking to address ongoing inflationary concerns.

The drug store chain plans to introduce a series of promotional campaigns, including the return of its myWDays in mid-July.

“Walgreens understands our customers are under financial strain and struggle to purchase everyday essentials. We continue to be committed to our customers by lowering prices on over a thousand additional items, something we’ve been doing since October of 2023,” said Tracey D. Brown, EVP, president, Walgreens Retail & Chief Customer Officer. “Through myWalgreens loyalty program, our more than 110 million members receive personalized offerings daily. Listening to our customers and offering quality products, value, and convenience every day is our continued commitment.”

The company noted that prices may vary by location.

Just before the Memorial Day weekend, Target revealed price cuts on some 5,000 items across its stores including milk, meat, bread, soda, fresh fruit and vegetables, snacks, yogurt, peanut butter, coffee, diapers, paper towels, pet food, and more. The new price cuts follow recently reduced price reduction on some 1,500 items and thousands of additional price cuts are planned over the summer.

Aldi has cut prices on some 250 items across the store with the discounts running throughout the entire summer. The discount grocer, which focuses most of its assortment on private label offerings, will offer shoppers lower prices on barbecue essentials, travel-ready snacks, and better-for-you foods.

In April, Michaels lowered prices on more than 5,000 items across a host of product categories as part of an effort to help shoppers stretch their dollars. Lower prices are now in effect across categories including home décor, art supplies, seasonal items, kids' projects, wall frames, and more.
