Wakefern Food has named dunnhumby its strategic platform for category management and merchandising.

The retailer-owned supermarket cooperative will work with the data science company to leverage consumer insights and customer data models that help influence merchandising decisions that aim to drive growth and a more engaging experience at its 363 supermarkets and nearly 280 ShopRite stores.

“Our customers remain our singular focus. The tools and process that dunnhumby brings to the vendor relationship will allow us to increase product/service offerings delivering the best shopping experience our customers deserve,” said Steve Henig, Wakefern’s chief customer officer, adding that “dunnhumby is a global industry leader that uses data and insights to understand evolving customer needs and help retailers deliver the products and categories that meet those needs.”

Wakefern cooperative members independently own and operate supermarkets under the ShopRite, Price Rite Marketplace, The Fresh Grocer, Dearborn Market, Gourmet Garage and Fairway Market banners. For Wakefern and those stores, dunnhumby’s technology will build upon what the retailer already has in place, adding data analysis capabilities that put customers at the center of decision making.

The analysts annually use its data to spotlight retailers leading its Retailer Preference Index and just last year named Grant Steadman to be its new president of North America.

"We are honored to have been selected by Wakefern as their strategic partner for category management and merchandising. Wakefern and its cooperative members have a long history as customer-centric and innovative retailers," said Steadman. "Like them, we are passionate about improving the shopping experiences for customers and creating lifelong loyalty.”
