Tops Markets launches friendly display competition

For eight weeks over the summer, Tops Friendly Markets associates are battling in a friendly game of in-store creativity that they’re calling the 2020 Summer Sell-E-Bration Competition.

Stores within the network of Tops Markets’ 157 supermarkets in New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont will compete weekly for recognition of the best in-store displays centered around produce, fruits and floral arrangements that will incorporate a lot of the Tops store brand products.

The categories that Tops has come up with include The Soft Fruit Soiree, Cherry Jubilee, Cut Fruit Conga, Watermelon Wingding, Pepper Party, Avocados from Mexico Fiesta, Grape Gala, and Berry Bash.

Teams earn points for creativity of their produce displays as well as their ability to increase consumer awareness about the importance of eating more fruits and vegetables. The engagement has been well received by customers and associates alike with entries coming from all Tops locations.

Tops said the contest was created in lieu of the summer olympics that had to be canceled due to COVID-19. “With the Summer Olympics canceled we felt this was a great opportunity to encourage a little healthy competition among our store teams,” said Jeff Cady, director, produce/floral for TOPS. “During the summer months we know that consumers naturally gravitate toward purchasing fruits and vegetables but we wanted to challenge our associates to bring something new to the table.  This challenge encourages our associates to remind the community of the importance of getting their five recommended daily servings in a fun and engaging way.”

The initial week was for the Soft Fruit Soiree contest. The winners were:
