Tops Market announces new VP of merchandising

The company has tapped a nearly 30-year veteran with Tops to fill the role.

Tops Friendly Market will have a new leader to manage the chain’s merchandise, including own brands. Mike Nugent has been promoted to vice president of merchandising.

During his 29 years with Tops, Nugent has held other key positions within the organization including director of asset protection and district manager. Most recently, he served as director of edible grocery. 

As VP of merchandising, he will direct Tops’ merchandising activities and oversee all merchandising programs to meet budgeted objectives of inventory and service levels, pricing policies, and sales and profit goals.

Nugent is a graduate of the executive MBA program at the University of Buffalo School of Management and earned an undergraduate degree in business management and economics from SUNY Empire State College.

Based in Williamsville, N.Y., Tops operates 157 supermarkets, with five additional franchise stores, and employs 15,000 associates in New York, northern Pennsylvania and western Vermont.
