Tesco, the United Kingdom’s largest grocery retailer, is planning to develop a new discount grocery chain, according to an article originally published in The Sunday Times.
“Tesco has called in Boston Consulting Group to help to create a separate brand that would match or beat the German discounters Aldi and Lidl on price,” the article stated, noting that the new format would offer a much more limited assortment of products.
The grocery chain “has asked some own-label suppliers to sign non-disclosure agreements before contributing to the project,” the article pointed out.
