Stop & Shop is cutting prices on thousands of items at 88 stores in Massachusetts.

Stop & Shop is cutting prices on thousands of items across its stores, but is limiting the reductions to its 88 locations in Eastern Massachusetts. Beginning Aug. 22, the price cuts will include numerous products sold under the grocer’s own brand, as well as national brand items.

According to the grocer, the initiative is part of a broader, multi-year transformation strategy that Stop & Shop announced in May 2024 that includes lower prices, store remodels, and a renewed focus on a better in-store experience for local customers. When completed with this latest effort, Stop & Shop will have implemented price cuts across all of its Massachusetts stores.

“Massachusetts is our home, and bringing meaningful savings to millions of customers right in our backyard is an important milestone in our broader strategy,” said Roger Wheeler, president of Stop & Shop. “We know that value matters now more than ever, and this price investment — which is the largest one we’ve executed to date — is just one example of the work we’re focused on to deliver a great experience for our customers in terms of value, high-quality products, and service in our stores.”

In stores, price reductions will be labeled with yellow tags highlighting the new everyday price versus the old price.

Examples of new everyday pricing on staple items include:

The price cuts across its Massachusetts stores is the latest move in its transformation strategy that included the recently announced closure of two facilities in Connecticut used for its online grocery business. This move comes more than a year after Stop & Shop announced the closure of 32 stores in five states — Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
