Publix was the top-ranked supermarket in Newsweek's Best Retailers list.

Several major resellers of private label products were highly ranked in Newsweek’s Best Retailers list.

Results of the 2025 list were gleaned from an independent survey of more than 140,000 customer evaluations conducted in January and February 2025. Participants included individuals who have shopped at retailers in person within the past three years. The final assessment and rankings were based on the likelihood of recommendation and five evaluation criteria, including products, customer service, atmosphere, accessibility and shop layout.

Top retailers in the supermarket category were Publix, Wegmans, Kroger, Giant Eagle and Safeway, while Trader Joe’s, Aldi and WinCo Foods were highly ranked in the discount supermarket category.

Leading the way in the specialty/natural/ethnic grocers category was The Fresh Market, followed by Whole Foods Market, Natural Grocers, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Great Wall Supermarket.

Costco was ranked the top retailer in the superstores & warehouse club stores category, followed by Sam’s Club, Meijer, Target and BJ’s. The top five convenience stores were Buc-ee’s, Sheetz, QuikTrip, Wawa and GetGo.

In the home improvement stores category, Tractor Supply was ranked first, followed by Menards, Lowe’s, The Home Depot and Ace Hardware. Pet Supermarket led the way in the Pet Care category, followed by PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus, Petco and Pet Depot.
