Police officers in Largo, Fla., giving out coupons for Publix hams

During the holiday season, Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix Super Markets sells a lot of Publix Premium and branded hams. The retailer’s reputation in this realm has not gone unnoticed. Between now and Christmas, officers in the Largo (Fla.) Police Department have the option of issuing drivers pulled over for a minor traffic infraction a “warning coupon” for a free ham from Publix — a gesture that has generated attention from local media.

The Largo Police Department’s Facebook page displays a photo of the coupon, which states: “You are Hereby ‘Ticketed’ to Enjoy a Happy Holiday Season Compliments of the Largo Police Department.”

As the Facebook page explains, “An anonymous donor has kindly purchased the 48 vouchers and is helping us spread the holiday cheer. Not all officers have them, so please don’t go ‘showing off’ in traffic just to get our attention!”
