Petco is riding the wave of e-commerce shopping and has added same-day delivery through DoorDash, as well as unveiled a newly designed website and an enhanced mobile experience for its shoppers.
The DoorDash partnership marks the first time the San Diego-based pet retailer has offered same-day delivery, which is currently available nationally at more its more than 1,500 locations in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
The new web interface was created with the aim of creating faster load times, supplying more content around managing pets and pet health, and providing a better way for shoppers to book appointments at Petco stores, according to the company. The site has a more modern look and has added in ways for shoppers to buy online and pick-up items inside stores, at the curb or now through delivery.
The app expands on some of these same features and also added a Right Food Finder tool where shoppers can supply information about their pet such as age, breed and diet-sensitive requests to get recommended products. The app also has care reminder notifications.
"Consumers want more than a transactional relationship with the companies they do business with," said Petco chief digital and innovation officer Darren MacDonald. "They want deeper, richer experiences, as well as more convenient ways to shop. We think same-day delivery is a huge win for pet parents and the latest step on our journey to meet their needs like no one else can."
Petco's same-day delivery service will be fulfilled through DoorDash Drive, its white-label fulfillment platform that powers direct delivery for any business. DoorDash Drive allows merchants that generate demand through their own websites, apps and other channels to fulfill orders using DoorDash's logistics service. Through Drive, Petco's delivery will be contactless, enabling the Dasher to leave the Petco order in a safe, secure location designated by the customer.
