New Ace Hardware Retail Support Facility Central to Company Plans
Ace Hardware is celebrating the official grand opening of its new retail support center (RSC) in Kansas City, Mo., a facility that spans more than 1.5 million square feet and represents a major investment in the company’s continued growth and ability to support its network of independent retailers.
“This new 1.5 million-square-foot facility in Kansas City is more than just a building,” said John Venhuizen, president and CEO of Oak Brook, Ill.-based Ace, “it’s a symbol of what hard work, purpose and servant-hearted teamwork can accomplish. It exists for one reason only: to help our locally owned stores serve their neighbors with excellence that has made Ace famous.”
The Kansas City RSC is almost twice the size of the average company distribution center, according to Ace. The supply chain network is a cornerstone of the company’s operational success, and Ace expects the facility to play a crucial role in supporting its growing network of more than 5,000 locally owned stores in the United States by providing top-notch logistics and supply chain efficiency. The new RSC joins a network of more than a dozen distribution centers across the country, each designed to support Ace’s particular independent retail model. The new facility will feature advanced automation technology and efficiency systems to streamline operations, minimize environmental impact and support Ace’s long-term sustainability goals.
Located near the exact geographic center of the continental United States, the RSC is situated along Interstate 29 and adjacent to Kansas City International Airport, providing quick access to major highway and air freight networks. Because of its placement, the location enhances Ace’s ability to deliver products quickly and reliably to thousands of stores across the central United States, the company said.
The new RSC will generate more than 350 local jobs in the Kansas City area, Ace said. In recognition of the facility’s innovative design and impact, the Kansas City Business Journal honored the facility with a 2025 Capstone Award, making it the sole winner in the industrial category.
