Mold-Rite Plastics has signed onto the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, a pledge focused on reusing plastics to create a circular economy for plastic materials, joining several companies.

Since 2016, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy initiative has brought businesses and governments together with a goal toward creating a circular economy for plastics. Mold-Rite, Chicago, has several facilities that produce plastic closures for vitamins, OTC, pharmaceuticals, soaps, sanitizers and more, and for store brand suppliers.

At the heart of the New Plastic Economy initiative are a set of goals to:

  • Eliminate problematic or unnecessary plastic packaging through redesign, innovation and new delivery models is a priority;
  • Reuse models applied where relevant, reducing the need for single-use packaging;
  • Make all plastic packaging 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable;
  • Make all plastic packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable in practice;
  • Ensure plastic is fully decoupled from the consumption of finite resources; and
  • And ensure all plastic packaging is free of hazardous chemicals, and the health, safety and rights of all people involved are respected.

“We are proud to have signed the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, an extension of our ongoing sustainability efforts,” said Dawn Nowicki, vice president of business development and marketing for Mold-Rite Plastics.

“As an environmentally responsible manufacturer of packaging, we take pride in our ongoing initiative to delight our customers by offering more sustainable products which reduce the amount of plastics used, provide recyclable options and promote reuse where ever possible. We have continuously invested in our manufacturing facilities to identify technology which conserves energy, uses renewable energy and minimizes environmental impacts to our community and neighbors while we find a way to incorporate and reuse all material and recycle all scrap,” added Nowicki, who also heads up the global social responsibility efforts for Mold-Rite.

Additionally, supporting its work with the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, Mold-Rite Plastics is also a member of the Association of Plastic Recyclers. Working collaboratively with these organizations, Mold-Rite’s customers and suppliers can play an instrumental role in helping to achieve a world without plastic pollution.
