Meijer to open Bridge Street Market

8/20/2018

After more than a year of planning and construction, Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer said it is preparing to open Bridge Street Market, a concept store under a new name, on Aug. 29, in its headquarters city, the grocery chain said a press release.

The 37,000-square-feet Bridge Street Market, located on a downtown corner, will bring fresh, convenient food and value to residents of the West Side, according to Store Manager Ken Bair. The store also will be stocked with prepared foods, including bakery items, fresh meat and deli offerings; about 2,000 local, artisan groceries; and Meijer brand products as well as national products. It will also include a Mayan Buzz Café coffee shop; a beer, wine and liquor section; and basic cleaning and health and beauty care products.

“Bridge Street Market is unique – unique to the region and unique to Meijer, and we are excited to finally share it with the community,” Bair said in a statement. “From day one, we hit the ground running to ensure we had the best products on our shelves to meet the community’s needs.”

Construction began in June 2017. The market features 22-foot ceilings, an open-air motif, a "pedestrian friendly design" and three garage-style doors that will open along Bridge Street. The store is new territory, said Meijer, which predominately operates large supercenter stores.
