German-founded discount grocery chain Lidl is preparing to open its latest location in New York City area.

Located at 450 Commack Road, the new location will open on Jan. 18 as Lidl’s first ground-up build on Long Island. The new Lidl store was a $12 million investment for the retailer, and will create more than 50 jobs for the community.

"The new Deer Park Lidl store is a tremendous asset for Long Islanders,” said Suffolk County Comptroller John Kennedy. “Lidl has a proven track record of providing great grocery at low prices and offering their employees strong compensation and benefits. I have seen firsthand how Lidl's presence in Suffolk County has given a choice that didn't exist prior."

The Deer Park location has fresh food options, a bakery and deli, a flower section and a rotating non-food selection which will include fitness gear, small kitchen appliances, toys, outdoor furniture and more.

Throughout its grand opening weekend, Wednesday-Sunday, Lidl will donate $1 to Cohen Children’s Medical Center, a member of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, for every new myLidl member who signs up and sets Lidl Deer Park as their home store.

"Suffolk County has seen great success with Lidl's entry over the last two years,” said Suffolk County Chief Deputy Commissioner  Christopher Gonzalez. “The company is investing over $10 million in the Deer Park store alone, providing good jobs with benefits to their team members. We are happy to welcome Lidl once again and congratulate them on this important opening."

Lidl operates more than 12,000 stores and is active in 32 countries.
