Lidl's new Maryland store in Prince George's County opened February 14.
Lidl is moving forward with store growth plans as the grocer will soon expand its presence in Northern New Jersey.
According to a report from NorthJersey.com, the German grocery store has signed a lease for a 27,270-square foot store at the Totowa Commons on Route 46. The space was previously occupied by Marshalls.
Leigh Lyons, senior vice president for leasing, said this will be Lidl’s second location in Passaic County and he expects the new store will increase traffic to the shopping center. The Home Depot and Fortunoff Backyard Store currently call the shopping center home.
A grand opening date for the new Lidl store has not yet been set.
Additionally, Lidl on Valentine’s Day opened a new store in Maryland’s Prince George’s County at 3104 Queens Chapel Road in Hyattsville, Store Brands sister publication Progressive Grocer reported. Located in the Shops at Queens Chillum, the store will employ 40 people.
“The addition of a high-quality full-service grocer and anchor tenant enhances the shopping experience for our customers and community,” said Harvey B. Maisel, managing member of Shops at Queens Chillum. “Both Lidl’s and ownership’s extensive investment in the shopping center represents our commitment to providing a best-in-class environment and shopping experience for the community.”
As part of the grand opening celebration, Lidl is making a donation to the Capital Area Food Bank, which aids families in the Washington metropolitan area. The retailer will donate $1 to the organization for each shopper who signs up for the myLidl app and sets the Hyattsville location as their store throughout the opening weekend.
