Iowa-based grocery chain Hy-Vee, whose private label selection was recently named among the most trusted by consumers, is expanding to a new state. The employee-owned chain has announced more details about its first store in Kentucky.

First covered by Store Brands’ sister publication Progressive Grocer, the store will open in Louisville at the SouthPointe Commons retail and lifestyle center. The 150,000-square-foot store is set to open next year.

“As Hy-Vee continues to grow and evolve, we have so much to offer consumers across the U.S. that we knew it was time to expand our footprint even further,” said Randy Edeker, chairman and CEO of Hy-Vee. “As customers’ shopping habits change and their needs evolve, we have services and offerings that we believe will bring an entirely new retail experience to those in Kentucky.”

Beyond Kentucky, Hy-Vee is slated to expand beyond its current eight state footprint. The chain plans to expand to Indiana, Tennessee and Alabama as well by 2024.
