Giant Eagle Potato Chips Made With All Natural Ingredients: Kettle-cooked, Salt & Pepper Flavor

Today's trend toward all-natural formulations is hard to miss; it's playing out in virtually every grocery category. And this move toward "real" ingredients isn't limited to the national brands. Many retailers also are putting a natural spin on new store brand product development.

Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle is one of those retailers. The company recently debuted Giant Eagle Potato Chips Made with All Natural Ingredients in regular, kettle-cooked and rippled varieties — and in a variety of flavors. The chips contain no added MSG, no preservatives and no artificial flavors.

To shake up their taste buds, we asked our panelists (including Drew, our newest tester) to taste the Kettle Cooked variety in the Salt & Pepper Flavor. We purchased three 8.5-ounce bags (perfect for sharing) for the promotional price of $2.50 each at a Giant Eagle store in Rossford, Ohio.

Note: Test Drive delivers honest, yet totally unscientific feedback on a new store brand product and its packaging each month. Our panelists give a green light to items/packaging they like a great deal; a yellow light to items/packaging they deem "acceptable;" and a red light to items/packaging not meeting their expectations.
