Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion will hold grand reopening ceremonies this week for 105 Norfolk, Va.-area stores after completing a $168 million capital investment, which included hiring 4,000 new associates and donations of two mobile food trucks to area food banks feeding local families. Food Lion is a banner operated by Ahold Delhaize USA.
The new stores are designed to make the shopping experience easier for customers, and feature new signage and groupings of like products to locate items quickly, said a press release. A more efficient checkout process, improved product quality, an abundant fresh produce and meat selection, hand-battered chicken, a wider choice of grab-and-go items, and pre-sliced deli meats and cheeses are other changes customers can expect, according to Food Lion.
Twelve of the 105 stores also feature walk-in garden coolers to keep produce fresher longer. Food Lion has remodeled 649 of its 1,030 stores in the last four years.
“We're excited to bring these improvements to our 105 local stores," said Meg Ham, president of Food Lion, in the press release. "… Every change we’ve made will make it easier for our customers to find fresh, quality products at affordable prices every day.”
