Food Lion Expands Private Label Frozen Pizza Offerings
Frozen pizza has long been a staple of the frozen food selection at grocers and other food retailers, and recently the category has seen a wave of product development featuring unique styles sold under private brands.
Food Lion is the latest grocer to join this wave of new products with the launch of nine new frozen pizzas sold under the Food Lion brand at its more than 1,100 stores.
The Salisbury, North Carolina-based grocer is offering its new selection at three price points. For $3.49, shoppers can choose from classic crust cheese pizza, classic crust pepperoni pizza and classic crust supreme pizza. The supreme pizza is topped with mozzarella cheese, sausage made with pork and chicken, pepperoni made with pork and chicken, chicken and beef, onions, and green and red bell peppers.
Selections at $4.49 include rising crust 3-meat pizza, rising crust 4-cheese pizza and rising crust pepperoni pizza. Choices at $5.49 include thin crust margherita pizza, thin crust white cheese pizza and thin crust BBQ chicken pizza.
Food Lion's launch of its new private label frozen pizza selection continues a trend seen in recent months. In March, Target raised the curtain on its Good & Gather Collabs line with its Korean-inspired frozen pizzas and appetizers developed with James Beard Award-winning chef Ann Kim.
A featured item in the line is The Pickle Pie. Topped with ranch sauce, sliced pickles, and crunchy potato chips, this unique take on pizza taps into a surging trend. Google searches for pickles have skyrocketed 3,800% since early 2023, but Kim has been serving her signature pickle pies since 2020.
More recently, Home Chef debuted its new limited-edition Pickle Pizza featuring Grillo's Pickles. The ready-to-bake pizza is topped with mozzarella cheese, Grillo's hot pickle chips, pulled pork, red onions, and barbecue sauce on a wood-fired-style crust.
Available at Kroger stores nationwide through Labor Day, the new pizza is priced at $7.99.
