India’s leading e-commerce company Flipkart, which Walmart owns 77% of the organization, has reportedly made a personnel move around its budding private label business.

The company’s vice president of business development Manish Kumar is being moved to head up the private label business, per a report from a global data company.

Walmart acquired a leading stake in Flipkart in 2018 to help grow the business in India, and about a year before that, Flipkart had begun rolling out private label. The e-commerce player has more than 150 products in groceries, household goods, furniture, electronics and more.

Flipkart posted a history of its private brand business on its website, saying the company uses its private label products to fill a need for an affordable option of a product where there isn’t one in India.

“There are a lot of tier 2 and tier 3 brands that don’t provide adequate quality so we plan to provide an alternative for that,” said Shivani Suri, senior director of private brands at Flipkart, in the article.
