Dollar General continues to boost its assortment of “better-for-you” options with plans to bring an assortment of fresh produce to more stores and further expand its private brand assortment of personal care products.

Currently, the discount retailer offers fruits and vegetables in 3,900 locations and will have products such as lettuce, tomatoes, onions, apples, strawberries, potatoes, sweet potatoes, lemons, limes and salad mixes to a total of 5,000 stores by January of 2024.

This growth is part of the company’s previously announced efforts in June 2021 to offer produce in more than 10,000 stores over the next several years. Many of these locations, company officials said, are in food deserts as defined by the United States Department of Agriculture.

Additionally, Dollar General’s growing private brands assortment is also playing a significant role in offering its shoppers high-value products focused on health and wellness.

Currently available in the retailer’s 19,000 locations, the Good & Smart private brand assortment is focused on providing healthier snacking and beverage options. The line includes trail mix, nuts, coconut water, dried fruit and other products. The items are offered with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Those customers seeking relief from various ailments, Dollar General’s DG Well Being health care line includes cough and cold items, dental care, nutritional items, medical products, health aids and feminine hygiene products.
