CVS pilots Nuro

CVS Pharmacy has begun testing delivery of medications and essential products in the Houston area using the autonomous vehicle from Nuro. Last year, Kroger began testing the vehicle to deliver groceries in the Houston area.

CVS also joins Walmart, who first started testing the self-driving delivery vehicle. CVS is piloting the deliveries this month. Consumers place a prescription and non-prescription order on CVS.com or through the mobile app and select “autonomous delivery” as an option. When the product arrives, the shoppers confirm their identity to unlock it and receive the order. The deliveries are free.

“Today, we are excited to expand into an entirely new vertical: health,” said Dave Ferguson, co-founder and president of Nuro. “Through our partnership with CVS, we hope to make it easier for customers to get medicine, prescriptions, and the other things they need delivered directly to their homes.”

The retailer said they’ve seen an increased demand in prescription delivery, so the autonomous vehicle will be a free option during this Houston test. However, the vehicle will also deliver essentials, a range of products that the CVS Health retailer produces under various store brand labels such as Beauty 360, Total Home tissue paper and Just the Basics.

The pilot program will serve customers across three ZIP codes near CVS Pharmacy’s location at 5430 Bissonnet Street, Bellaire, Texas, 77401.
