Costco September Sales Rise

The wholesale club retailer reported monthly comparable store gains across all geographic segments.

Costco reported solid sales gains in September.

September net sales at Costco were up 6% as the retailer reported revenue of $22.75 billion for the year’s ninth month. Total sales for September of 2022 were $21.46 billion. 

The five-week period this year ended October 1 included the last week of the 53-week fiscal year 2023 ended September 3, 2023.

Company-wide comparable store sales were up 4.5%. Same-store sales by geographic segment were +3.2% in the U.S., +6.7% in Canada, and +10 in Other International. E-commerce comparable sales were up 3.7%.

Comparable sales company-wide were up 3.7% when excluding the impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange. Using these benchmarks, same-store sales by geographic region were +2.7% in the U.S., +8.0% in Canada, and +4.9% in Other International. E-commerce sales were up 3.5%.

Costco currently operates 861 warehouses, including 591 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 107 in Canada, 40 in Mexico, 33 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 18 in Korea, 15 in Australia, 14 in Taiwan, five in China, four in Spain, two in France, and one each in Iceland, New Zealand and Sweden. Costco also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Australia.
