The Container Store emerged from bankruptcy in late January.

Just weeks after The Container Store emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy project as a privately held company, the storage and organization specialty store is now on the hunt for a new chief executive.

Satish Malhotra resigned from the Coppell, Tex.-based specialty retailer to pursue other opportunities. News of his resignation was reported by The Dallas Morning News, citing an internal memo. Since 2022, Malhotra has been The Container Store’s CEO. He previously served as chief retail and operating officer at Sephora

The retailer’s board of directors has formed the Office of Chief Executive Officer to execute the company’s operations and strategy. Board chair Joel Bines will become executive officer and lead the office, and Martin Schumacher, chief transformation officer, will become chief commercial officer and part of the new leadership team, according to published reports.

The Container Store filed for bankruptcy protection in December of 2024 and emerged in late January having achieved its objectives that included refinancing short-term debt, reducting long-term debt obligations, accessing $40 million in new financing and modifying its asset-backed lending facility to add $40 million in upsized capacity.
