Baltimore-based Case Mason, an East Coast provider of contract manufacturing and packaging services for consumer brands and retailers' private brands, said it completed a consolidation of all of its production capabilities to a 150,000-square-foot facility in Baltimore. Previously, the company operated out of two separate locations situated 11 miles apart.
“The recent move enabled us to substantially streamline operations and resources, and eliminate the need to shuttle personnel, materials and resources from plant to plant,” said Scott Miller, chief growth officer, Case Mason. “We can now set up continuous processing lines within a single footprint, which will increase our already high level of responsiveness. And having the entire Case Mason team under one roof has dramatically improved communications, both internally and externally.”
The consolidated facility includes 135,000 square feet dedicated to solid and liquid products filling, packaging and assembly, with a separate 16,000-square-foot segment dedicated to food and beverage production and packaging. Case Mason said it has a full-time workforce of 40 employees, and with a readily accessible regional labor pool, can quickly expand to accommodate seasonal, rush or special projects.
“We’ve experienced steady growth over the last seven years,” Miller added. “Additional adjacent space exists, should we need it, to further expand our footprint and keep pace with the demands of our expanding customer base.”
The facility houses blending equipment and numerous filling lines to accommodate products in solid, semi-solid, powder and liquid formats, including bulk filling. Packaging services include bundling, cartoning, clam shell packaging, flow wrapping, shrink sealing, coding and labeling, as well as club store packaging and store-ready pallets. Assembly services include point-of-purchase displays, gift packs, tray and multi-pack assemblies, and re-work and product modification services. For many customers, Case Mason said it offers package sourcing, warehousing, and distribution and fulfillment services as well.
The location also houses a comprehensive tooling department, along with resources to provide custom equipment fabrication and reengineering for specialty projects. This gives the company additional flexibility to adapt or create equipment to meet precise packaging requirements quickly and efficiently.
Case Mason’s quality assurance department provides complete oversight and monitors all services, processes and manufacturing, from raw material inspection and finished goods inspection to work in progress, process and testing, the company said.
The facility is registered by the American Institute of Baking, FDA and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; it also is Kosher certified, licensed by the state of Maryland for food processing and bonded to package alcohol products in Maryland, the company said.
