BJ's Wholesale Club is expanding in Massachusetts with the addition of a new store in Springfield. The new location, slated to open later this year at 1655 Boston Road, will be the retailer's first new store in its home state in 13 years.

BJ's currently has 25 clubs and 20 gas stations throughout the Bay State. A grand opening date has not been announced.

"For more than 40 years, BJ's has been delivering unbeatable value to families, and that all started right here in Massachusetts," said Bob Eddy, chairman and CEO, BJ's Wholesale Club. "As we've become one of the largest companies based in Massachusetts, we're excited to continue growing in our own backyard, contributing to our communities and helping take care of the families who depend on us."

The new Springfield store, which is expected to create between 100 and 150 jobs, marks the continuation of BJ's expansion efforts. Earlier this year, the company announced plans for up to 30 new locations over the next two fiscal years.

Included in its expansion plans is the wholesale club's entry into Texas with several stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

More recently, the retailer has opened stores in Tennessee and Kentucky while also unveiling plans for a new store on New York's Staten Island. Additionally, the company announced plans to build a new distribution center in Commercial Point, Ohio, which is set to open in 2027.
