Big Lots to deliver more than groceries with Instacart

Instacart has added another retailer partner — hard discounter Big Lots and its nearly 1,400 stores across 47 states.

Shoppers can now order groceries and essentials from Big Lots locations through the Instacart Marketplace, including its large array of store brands, but the same-day delivery company will also include a variety of home goods and decor that goes beyond the typical grocery delivery Instacart users might be used to.

This move with Big Lots comes fresh off an announcement by San Francisco-based Instacart’s partnering with C&S Wholesale to deliver to thousands of independent grocers.

"At Big Lots it's our mission to make big savings on home essentials accessible to our customers in the communities we serve. Our partnership with Instacart will bring our assortment of home goods, groceries and everyday essentials to customers online in a new way," said Erica Fortune, vice president of e-commerce at Big Lots. "This announcement is another example of our commitment to offering exceptional value, surprising products and an easy shopping experience to families across the U.S."

The expansion beyond grocery, affords customers a chance to order items from categories such as Big Lots’ home goods, kitchen and dining, beauty, pet, personal care, office and craft supplies, toys and more. They can order through the Instacart app or online.

Instacart today partners with more than 350 national, regional and local retailers to offer delivery from over 25,000 stores across more than 5,500 cities in the U.S. and Canada. Instacart delivery is currently available to more than 85% of households in the U.S. and more than 70% of households in Canada.
