Asda’s sweet gins timed for summer
Three new own brand gins with flavors inspired by a traditional sweet shop have hit Asda stores in time for summer BBQs, a season that the British retailer said expects to see huge sales increases in alcohol and other categories.
The new gins include a Asda Extra Special Strawberry Laces Gin, Asda Extra Special Cola Cube Gin and Asda Extra Special Rhubarb and Custard Gin; three highly innovative flavors that the retailer said revel in nostalgia and are ideal for summer BBQs and evening soirees.
“Novelty gins have become a summer essential for our customers who love to try innovative and wonderful flavors,” said Marion Muir, spirits product development manager, Asda. "The new range has been created to ensure the gins are both delicious to drink yet also dazzling to look at, delivering popular flavors we know the nation loves, and at a great price point too.”
The gins join three novelty gins that launched last year: Extra Special Lemon Sherbet Gin, Extra Special Pear Drop Gin and Extra Special Parma Violet Gins. The gins also hit shelves when the retailer is anticipating one of the hottest Junes in 40 years in the United Kingdom.
In alcohol alone, the retailer has forecasted a 37% increase in rosé sales and a 60-70% hike in beer and cider sales during the heat.
The summer cookouts will gas up burger sales, too, as Asda predicts it will sell more than half a million packs of burgers, a total of 3.3 million burgers. Around 700,000 packs of sausages expect to be swooped up, too, a total of 5.4 million bangers.
